Curriculum

Working together, with Jesus beside us, to achieve our full potential.

Intent

At Gnosall St Lawrence CE Primary Academy, we place great importance on a curriculum which develops the whole child. Through our core Christian values, we foster an environment where the emotional, physical, academic, social, moral, spiritual and cultural development of each child is considered.

Our curriculum is mapped to include coverage of the Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum and provides a range of experiences for our pupils. Our curriculum is designed to challenge, engage and motivate with the ultimate goal that our learners progress academically and become successful, confident individuals, who make a positive contribution to the community and to society – both now and in the future so that they will ‘shine as lights in the world’ (Philippians 2:15).

Implementation

Using prior knowledge as a starting point for future planning and teaching, we plan lessons which enable all pupils to make progress. Our lessons follow a sequence of learning to ensure that children make progress over short and long periods of time.

We have a minimum core offer for all vulnerable pupils and pupils who aren’t making the required progress, allowing us to be certain that we are meeting our intent of developing pupils academically. Both core and foundation subject lessons are designed to provide our pupils with the scaffolding required to access learning at all levels. We place a huge emphasis on pupil engagement and use pupil voice through our Whole School Forum to support decision making. We ensure that our children are committed to and persevere with their learning, making positive and respectful contributions to lessons. We deliver a stimulating and creative curriculum which is designed to engage, inform and inspire.

Further information about specific subjects can be found in the individual curriculum statements and topic overviews below.

Impact

Pupils leave Gnosall St Lawrence CE Primary Academy:

  • with secure skills in the core subjects;

  • with an understanding of modern Britain and the wider world in which we live and of its past;

  • with the understanding of how to be socially, morally, spiritually and culturally responsible and aware;

  • knowing how to build respectful relationships and make positive contributions to our world based on Christian values;

  • knowing how to safeguard themselves;

  • striving to endeavour to reach their full potential.

We aim for all children to leave Gnosall St Lawrence being respectful, skillful, resilient and ready to ‘shine as lights in the world’ (Philippians 2:16).
