Our School Blog
Last Friday was our annual Christmas Fayre! The Y6s had great fun setting up and running their enterprise stalls with everything from “Pin the nose on Rudolf” to “Guess the name of the Unicorn.” We spent the week before the fayre working out profit margins and creating adverts for our stalls- it’s safe to say they were all a great success.
This term Year 6 have been studying Ancient Greece. Over the past two weeks we have researched, designed and made our own Greek pottery. First we found out how pottery would have been made in Ancient Greece and what its different uses were. We then collected some ideas for shapes and patterns to use in our own design. Finally we made our own clay “coil” or “pinch” pots and decorated them with Greek patterns.
We have enjoyed an exciting visit from the Wonder Dome. The Wonder Dome is an inflatable planetarium. We went inside and found out even more about our solar system and constellations to support our Space and Greeks topic. Did you know scientists believe it may rain diamonds on the gas planets due to all of the carbon in their atmosphere?
Last week, Year 2 received a special visitor… Safety Seymour! Safety Seymour taught us all about carbon monoxide: understanding what it is and identifying how to keep ourselves safe. We had a great morning engaging in a range of drama activities and sharing our ideas. Safety Seymour is now being kept busy visiting the homes of all of the Year 2 children!
Healthy Fruit Smoothies
As part of our recent science work, we have been considering ways in which we can keep our bodies healthy and eat a balanced diet. Last week, we worked with our Y1/2 adults to design, make and consume a healthy fruit smoothie. Our favourite parts of the morning were creating our adverts and trying our tasty products!
